The Medicare Extension plan option is available only to GIC members living in the U.S. who are enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. It supplements your Medicare coverage by providing benefits for covered services that are not paid in full by Medicare. This includes the Medicare Part A inpatient hospital deductible and the Part B deductible and coinsurance.
As a Medicare Extension member, you can use any doctor or hospital in the U.S., and you never need referrals for office visits with specialists. To avoid being balance billed, be sure to use a Medicare participating provider. You also have coverage for care outside of the U.S.
Should I select the CIC (Comprehensive Insurance Coverage) option?
Yes. More than 98% of Medicare Extension members choose CIC. Members who do not select CIC may be subject to significant medical bills, since many benefits are covered at 80% without CIC. The GIC and Unicare recommend the CIC option.
